Despite recent progresses in molecular genetics and elemental imaging, a clear picture of the quantitative distribution of iron in the different cellular compartments is still missing. We propose to study the control of allocation in subcellular compartments and identify new roles of iron, focusing on the chloroplast and the nucleolus. We will analyze the role of nicotianamine and YSL transporters in Fe balance on chloroplasts and we will identify the function requiring Fe in the nucleolus.

The main objective of this proposal is to shed light on fundamental questions about the basis of how the parasite Toxoplasma gondii interacts with its host. Only then will it be possible to design new intervention strategies against toxoplasmosis and other related parasites.
