One in five individuals displays elevated lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)], a highly atherogenic lipoprotein resembling low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Pathophysiological, epidemiological and genetic studies demonstrate that when circulating Lp(a) levels are high (above 125 nmol/L), cardiovascular event rates sharply increase.

Vaping has emerged as an alternative nicotine delivery method immensely popular especially amongst adolescents. These increases in adolescent nicotine use stress the need for effective evidence-based interventions.

Yarrowia lipolytica oleochemicals based on odd chain fatty acids – YaLiOl
One of the promising alternatives that can substitute fossil resources is the use of microbial oils. The engineering of fatty acids with high added value, fermentation on a cheap substrate, and the transformation of oils into products of higher added value are among the strategies that can reduce their production costs. In this context, the YaLiOl project aims to provide oleochemicals based on odd-chain fatty acids from Yarrowia lipolytica.
