SEarch-oriented ConverSAtIonal systeMS – SESAMS
The project envisions a novel paradigm in IR in which the user can interact with the search engine in natural language through the intermediary of a conversational system. We refer to this as search-oriented conversational systems. There are several important challenges underlying this novel paradigm: 1) understanding the user's information need; 2) designing a proactive system; and, 3) evaluating this novel paradigm.

Enhancing the therapeutic effect of MSC in osteoarthritis: role of PPARb/d – PPAROA
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease. OA has no cure and is one of the ten most disabling diseases in developed countries. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC)-based therapies are thus considered promising for the development of effective treatments in OA.
The EYE, a WINdow to neurovascular coupling – EyeWin
Neuro Vascular Coupling (NVC) is a mechanism by which the supply of oxygen and nutrients is adjusted to neural activity via blood flow regulation. Disruption of NVC in the brain is at the core of several pathologies. Extensive analysis of NVC has been performed on animals. Non-invasive technics are used on humans (OLD fMRI) but lack resolution. Retina offers access to NVC evaluation through non invasice optical techniques, provided that high spatial and temporal resolution is reached.
Controlled Computation of Point-Defect Characteristics in High entropy Alloys – CoCoA
This project aims at obtaining an improved understanding of point defect (PDs) physics in High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), and at providing methods to precisely characterize their intrinsic properties at the atomic scale. These quantities are then used to inform meso-scale models (of e.g. mechanical properties and diffusion), so as to predict HEAs behavior and guide alloy design.
Optical sensors for air quality monitoring (gaz NO2, O3) – CAPTAIN
Air pollution is the leading environmental cause of mortality. This worrying situation is not improving at the moment, since the emission levels of the main pollutants (nitrogen oxides NOx, ozone O3, volatile organic compounds VOCs and small particles SP) remain stable in the majority of major European cities. Beyond the environmental consequences reducing and monitoring air pollution is a real public health issue. Considering this serious conclusion it appears imperative to ensure a continuous measurement of the presence of these pollutants in ambient air in order to be able to implement means of remediation and methods of treatment, destruction or trapping of the effluent gases.
Social Choice and Social Networks – SCONE
Collective decision methods (elections, participatory budgeting, matching, comittee voting, judgment aggregation…), as traditionally studied in the field of (computational) social choice, do not take into account the existence of a network relating the decision-makers.
Coherent High Q Micro-resonator Blue Light Sources – COMBO
COMBO aims to unveil the opportunity to develop coherent sources in the blue domain by use of whispering-gallery mode resonators. The ambition of the COMBO project is to develop a WGM resonator platform in the blue range (405-480 nm) for the demonstration of compact single frequency laser diodes and blue Kerr frequency combs.
