Metamorphism and Properties of Snow from 3D Images: Microscale Experimentation and Simulation for a better Understanding of Involved Mechanisms – MiMESis-3D
This project aims at improving the current knowledge and modeling of snow at microscale in order to guide the development of new generation snowpack models, which are necessary for several applications such as climate modeling, avalanche risk forecasting, etc. All the critical ingredients involved in snowpack modeling, namely metamorphism, transfer, mechanical and optical properties of snow, will be revisited and developed further within original multiscale approaches.
Emergent Orders of Spinor BECs in a Multimode Ring Resonator – EOSBECMR
We explored the interplay between atomic matter and cavity quantum electrodynamics, obtaining a rich tapestry of insights and accomplishments at the intersection of atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The core of our research lay in the creation of a versatile experimental setup encompassing a traveling wave cavity in ultra-high-vacuum, and in the theoretical study of the crystallization effects determined by this specific configuration.
Genetic and epigenetic regulation of life cycle progression in the model brown alga Ectocarpus – Epicycle
The project combined detailed molecular characterisation of life cycle regulatory processes with genome-wide analyses of changes in gene expression and chromatin modifications and provided important insights into the events associated with the alternation of life cycle generations in the brown alga Ectocarpus.
Toward Non-Invasive Ultrasound Surgery – TONUS
Only 25% of patients with primary or secondary liver tumors are candidates for curative treatment. Focused ultrasound has the potential to be a new therapeutic option but major innovations are needed. The challenge of the TONUS project is to implement these breakthrough innovations and to demonstrate the feasibility, efficacy and preclinical safety of this new treatment in order to be able to start using it in clinically.
Metabolic interactions between adipocytes and trypanosomes, a new paradigm for trypanosomiases – AdipoTryp
Since adipocytes excrete large amounts of glycerol from lipolysis and glycolysis, we hypothesised that interactions between adipocytes and extravascular trypanosomes, in the mammalian hosts, may confer a selective advantage to the parasites in the skin the adipose tissue. In addition, the unique glycerol-to-glucose preference developed by insect trypanosomes may have a crucial role for the growth and/or development of the parasite in its insect vector and possible in the mammalian hosts.
Visibility and invisibility of minorities on the public scene at the end of the Middle Ages – VISMIN
Visibility and invisibilization of minorities in the public space at the end of the Middle Ages.
6 towns in the Iberian Peninsula serve as the study site: Barcelona, ??Girona, Perpignan, Zaragoza, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia. The cities of Toledo and Granada provide a counterpoint. We analyze the evolution of Jewish neighborhoods between 1200 and 1492, from a «Golden Age« to the expulsion.

Extremal Regression with Applications to Econometrics, Environment and Finance – ExtremReg
First, the investigation of mathematical properties under frontier models is often a lot harder than under the standard regression models. Second, while the extreme value properties of quantiles are well developed, much less is known about their expectile and extremile analogues. Third, the problem of estimating conditional extremes and risk measures in high dimensions has been much less discussed in the literature. Our project tries to solve
these issues in different directions.
Rendering procedural textures for huge digital worlds – ReProcTex
The management of huge amounts of 3D data is a serious issue in graphics applications, as in media production. In a classical production pipeline, rendering the 3D scene is processed separately from the generation of textures which represent its visual details. Our project is concerned with treating procedural texture synthesis and photo-realistic rendering as one tightly coupled entity.
