Sustainable Buildings and Cities

Most of the people of the world live in cities, and one of the overwhelming challenges facing us in the 21st century will be to deal with the continuous growth of urban population in ways which are sustainable. Cities are the centers of innovation and economic development, but they also have a major impact which is, more often than not, negative, on the environment. Moreover, structural deep evolutions are happening, including demographic evolution with population ageing, depletion of some natural resources, or necessity to preserve environment.

The aim of this call for proposals entitled “Sustainable Buildings and cities” is to promote projects on multiple fields research : life’s environment, building energy efficiency, reduction of cities and urban activities carbon footprints, renewable energies integration; and those fields could be approached on different pertinent scales, from building-scale, eco-districts to urban area.

The call is focused on three major themes:

  1. measures, diagnosis, estimation, characterization of sustainability
  2. design, conceptualization, simulation tools
  3. construction, renovation, urban management
