French American Joint Call for proposal ANR-NSF PIRE: Partnership for International Research and Education
The French National Research Agency (ANR) cooperates with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to finance the French teams selected by the two countries as part of the PIRE "Partnerships for International Research and Education" call for proposals issued by the NSF. The PIRE program is a collaborative program of the NSF which supports international collaborations. The goal is to fund research projects of excellence for which international cooperation is essential and with a strong educational dimension.
The call for proposals is open according to the PIRE program as described in the Program Solicitation NSF 14-587.
The French partners involved in PIRE projects may be eligible for funding from the ANR only in case of participation in binational Franco American proposals. Multinational proposals (including France, the United States and other countries) will not receive the support of the ANR.
Open topics for ANR-NSF co-financing are:
- Energy
- Advanced manufacturing
- Social Sciences
The maximum project duration is 4 years. The American partners will be funded by the NSF, the French partners by the ANR.
Joint pre-proposals and joint full proposals will be prepared by the French and American partners and submitted by the American coordinator only to NSF following the dates and submission procedures as defined by the NSF. These documents will be shared with the ANR and their evaluation coordinated among both agencies.
The document “Modalités de Participation et recommandations importantes pour les participants français” sets out the conditions and rules of participation of French teams in the NSF PIRE program for Franco American projects. This modalities apply to the French partners and complete the description and instructions of the PIRE program.
French participants will have to fill the specific financial form supporting the justification of funding requested and submit it as an annex document of the full proposal application on the NSF submission website.
