MATETPRO - Matériaux fonctionnels et Procédés

Elaboration par des procédés propres et applications de nouveaux oligoéthers réactifs issus de ressources renouvelables – GREENCOAT

Submission summary

The manufacturers of the chemistry have today to react in front of constraints connected to the rarefaction of the fossil raw materials and consequently to the increase of their prices, but also to the strong statutory pressure concerning toxicological aspects of the raw and intermediate materials of synthesis with the REACH rule. The chemical industry has to continue to meet the expectations of the society with alternative products and processes respectful of the man and its environment. Résipoly Chrysor company, the French leader of the formulation of synthetic resins used for paintings, varnishes, ground coatings, mastics, adhesives, etc… and SEG Diélectriques company, the French leader of the electric and electronic insulation with flexible insulating products wish today to develop their activities by proposing ranges of products of high performance while following an industrial policy of Sustainable Development. Materials made by these two companies arise essentially from three families of compounds: polyurethanes, polyesters, and aliphatic epoxy resins. We propose in this entitled project "GreenCoat " to focus on these three families of materials and to propose alternative products. The works will concern at first polyurethanes today prepared by the reaction of polyaddition of an isocyanate derivative and a polyether-polyol of oil origin. It is thus a question of proposing alternatives in polyethers such as ethylene oxide, propylene oxide or tetrahydrofuran by monomers coming from the biomass as epichlorohydrin, glycidol or glycidyl ethers, synthesized from the glycerin, a by-product of the synthesis of the biodiesel, the agro-carburant made by transesterification of triglycerides of oleaginous plant. The control of the architectures and the feature of these polyethers will have to be made by an environment-friendly approach, by using for example organic or not harmful polymerization initiators. These precursors will be of used to the elaboration and to the study of polyurethanes materials in the variable and dependent properties of synthesized polyethers. In the second time, the systems leading to functional polyethers obtained by the polymerization of glycidyl ethers, coming from glycerin, which can lead to a crosslinking under UV exposure without solvent or initiator, will be investigated. The main goal here is to propose crosslinkable varnishes which are so far essentially synthesized from polyesters coming from the petro-chemistry and crosslinked with toxic compounds. Finally, Résipoly and SEG prepare their epoxy resins from a prepolymer carrying glycidyl functions, and another one carrying amine functions, both coming from the petro-chemistry. Here we also intend to substitute them by similar functionalized polyethers prepared with glycerin derivatives.
