Similarity of Locally Structured Data in Computer Vision – SoLStiCe
models, the basic idea of which is to extract local features from small image regions so that images are mapped [...] or temporal relationships holding between local features which hinders their applicability to realistic [...] locally structured data (LSD), which combine visual features (such as interest points, segmented regions or
SEAmount and FRONTal megathrust Tsunami and Earthquake Risk Assessment. – SEAFRONTTERA
A large gap of 500km along the Sumatra subduction zone, the North Mentawai segment, is ready to rupture. To correctly assess its seismic and tsunami risk, it is of fundamental importance to understand why frontal sections can rupture and produce large tsunamis, and what controls the lateral extent of earthquakes. In this project, we propose to model the physical requirement of frontal rupturing and the effect of subducted bathymetric features on earthquake segmentation.
The secondary adaptation to an aquatic life Contribution of bone microstructure – AQUABONE

Development of a fast processing electronics for track trigger for Hadron Collider Experiments – FastTrack
The goal of FastTrack is to develop an extremely fast processor for pattern recognition and data interpretation in a wide range of fields, from triggering in High Energy Physics to DNA sequence alignement. The primary aim of the project is to demonstrate the online track reconstruction of full events at the CERN LHC in its High-Luminosity Phase for ATLAS and CMS using Associative Memory based technology and to proof the potential of these new devices in non-HEP applications.
Role of the PML nuclear bodies-associated antiviral response in the latent herpes simplex virus type 1 genome patterns acquisition – VIRUCEPTION
The comprehension of the molecular mechanisms that contribute to the establishment then maintenance of a persistent virus in its lethargic state is essential to understand the reasons for the resurgence of the associated disease once the virus reactivates. The VIRUCEPTION project is designed to understand one of key aspects of the interaction between a persistent virus, the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), and the host cell, i.e. the antiviral role of nuclear bodies.
Artificial Quantum Spin Systems from Atomic Physics – ArtiQ
quantum many-body systems, and their behavior features equilibrium states dominated by quantum fluctuations [...] space; 2) the models realized in atomic physics feature highly anisotropic spin-spin interactions, involving [...] frustrated quantum rotors, whose low-temperature state features complex ordered or quasi-ordered phases (spiraling
Mathematics: Objectivity by representation – MathObRe
Can the practical turn in philosophy of mathematics produce some progress on the role of representations in mathematical ontology and mathematical reasoning? is the leading questions of this project.
Accordingly, we plan to analyse in which sense stipulations determine objects by appealing to appropriate representations, in what sense inferential rigor can depend on these stipulations, and in what sense it is possible to characterize informal provability by formal means.
Functional genomics to dissect complex human lupus phenotype – LEDsGO
Trying to understand the mechanism of the different phenotypic traits of lupus, a severe and heterogeneous autoimmune disease, is a huge and essential effort to lead to the development of new therapeutic targets. We have developed new transgenic murine models, with deregulation of gene expression as observed in lupus patients, which we propose to analyse in this project to better understand the mechanisms of this disease.
Enantioselective synthesis of furan and pyridine atropisomers by central-to-axial chirality interconversion – SynthAx
New heteroatropisomeric derivatives of the 4-aryl-furan or -pyridine series are obtained by organocatalysis allowing the control of central chirality, followed by an oxidative aromatization step triggering the formation of the corresponding atropisomers with high levels of central to axial chirality conversions.
Stratospheric Dynamics and Variability : Understanding and Solutions to persistent model biases – StraDyVariUS
Climate models and numerical weather models now include the stratosphere (altitudes of 15 to 50 km) and often also part of the mesosphere. However, there are still several key features of the stratosphere's dynamics and variability which models still fail to reproduce accurately. The project uses theory, observations and models to better understand the fundamental processes involved and pave the way for an improved modelling.
