Investigation of the role of clonal haematopoiesis as a susceptibility factor in COVID-19 infection – CHIP-COVID-19

Submission summary

COVID-19 disease has been labelled a pandemic by WHO. Although old people are more susceptible, younger people can also succumb to the illness and we currently do not know who is at high risk. Understanding what makes people susceptible can help protect the vulnerable and guide the choice/development of treatments. Unbeknown to them, many people harbour abnormal blood cells in their body as a result of random gene changes that happen with time. Such cells react abnormally to inflammation leading to many illnesses. Here, we want to test if these cells are responsible for severe COVID-19 disease.
