What constraints the order of mutations ? – TempoMut
How free is the evolution of life’s macromolecules? Are there strong constraints on the order of mutations? How such constraints originate? If constraints are strong and pervasive how predictable are evolutionary pathways? This project is an attempt to address these scientific questions that are fundamental in both basic and applied Biology. This project lies at the crossroad between evolution, genetics, mathematics and computer science. Grounded in a robust international network of scientific collaboration, it will participate to the scientific emancipation of the coordinator. The scientific problem will be addressed through the development of models (both analytical and computational) and subsequent confrontation with genomic and structural data (by the use of biostatistics and bioinformatics). On the third year of the project, members will organize an international workshop on co-evolution and epistasis to present their results and gather with experts from the field.
