Origines, Constituants et EVolution de l'Univers

Cluster of excellence in Cosmology and (Astro)Particle Physics, OCEVU develops an original interdisciplinary approach (experimental, observational, and theoretical) to explore and study the Universe, from the large scales of cosmology to the small scales of particle physics. Built on the strengths and complementarity of teams of 6 labs: CPPM, CPT, LAM - Marseille; L2C, LUPM - Montpellier; IRAP - Toulouse, it involves 140 scientists, 120 postdocs and PhD students, and 160 high level engineers and technicians. It is managed by Aix-Marseille University (AMU through the A*MIDEX Foundation) with CNRS, Montpellier and Toulouse Universities as partners.

OCEVU was set up in 2012: Steering, Scientific, Executive Committees; Working Groups. Since then, 7 annual Workshops held gathering the OCEVU community. OCEVU engaged in numerous successful actions towards the completion of its program. In research: 7 major Calls competitively selected 70 projects including international recruitment of 15 PhD students, 20 1-to-3yr postdocs, 21 visiting scientists; organization of 40 international conferences; consolidation of technological platforms for space, instrumentation and computing; construction of a robotic telescope (Colibri) at San Pedro Martir Observatory (Obs.) in Mexico for the SVOM space mission and multi-messenger transient astronomy. In education: construction and setup of (inter)national platforms to teach Astronomy (IRiS) at Haute Provence Obs. and Astroparticules (ePERON) at the Pic du Midi Obs.; organization of 6 Physics Summer Camps for High-school and Bachelor students. In outreach: numerous exhibitions and conferences in Marseille, Montpellier and Toulouse, and multimedia projects. In transfer: exploration of new technologies for pixel cameras and low-cost and reliable submarine connectors.

AMU dans sa politique d’établissement met en œuvre des instituts (formation-recherche) d’établissement; les Labex ont vocation à candidater pour évoluer vers ce type de structure.
