Résumé

ParaFrap was the first initiative bringing together 18 of the most internationally recognized Parasitology research groups in France. In February 2019, ParaFrap was officially renewed for 5 years (2020-2024) with 11 new partners selected by the external Scientific Advisory Board (eSAB), bringing the consortium to 25 partners. A large portion of the budget was devoted to the international ‘sandwich’ PhD and postdoc programs, aiming at training future leaders in Parasitology. 45 PhD students and 17 postdocs have been recruited so far, including 7 PhD students engaged in applied projects based in endemic countries. Following a competitive call launched within the consortium, the eSAB has selected 17 ambitious PhD research projects, and ParaFrap has launched an international call for applications in December 2020 to hire 17 PhD students in September 2021. ParaFrap has already fostered a strong collaborative impulse at the national level in Parasitology, with numerous novel collaborations between members leading successful grant co-applications and co-publications in top journals. Since 2012, 610 articles have been published by the network. More importantly, the number of publications cosigned at least by 2 ParaFrap partners has increased to 78 since 2016 (compared to 13 from 2012-2016) and should increase further with the fourth wave of ParaFrap PhD students. The 3-day ParaFrap biennial conference held in September 2014, October 2016, October 2018 and October 2022 has received the EMBO Workshop label in 2018 and 2022. To strengthen the community, ParaFrap launched in January 2021 a monthly cycle of webinars open to all, which was inaugurated in 2021 by the 11 new partners and then pursued, with other ParaFrap partners (around 100 participants per webinar). All the objectives for the reporting period have been fully achieved so far.
