On 29 November 2013, a meeting related to university and scientific cooperation between Switzerland and France was organised by the French embassy in Switzerland and the Campus France Agency at the University of Bern. In the context of increasing internationalisation of research and higher education, a number of representatives from French and Swiss higher education organisations were gathered in order to strengthen the already existing relationships.
ABSOLUte asymmetric synthesis by means of CATalysts supported on extremely chirally-amplified supramolecular scaffolds – AbsoluCat
A general approach towards absolute asymmetric syntheses achieved by rational design. All industrial processes rely on chiral precursors to produce new chiral compounds and this paradigm is a severe limitation of asymmetric synthesis. Absolute asymmetric synthesis, i.e. the preparation of enantiopure compounds without the help of any chiral species, is still very limited. A general approach towards absolute asymmetric syntheses would thus constitute an important breakthrough.
Building managers are in the public or private sector sometimes unfamiliar with their own building stock, and do not always have the necessary knowledge to optimize their energy consumption. Energy audits carried out by specialized firms help fill these gaps, but are too expensive for an entire building stock. In addition, building energy monitoring is becoming more and more popular. However these data remain underexploited.
ANGIOGENESIS, A NEW THERAPEUTIC TARGET IN OSTEOARTHRITIS (OA) AND ASSOCIATED PAIN – OA-ANGIO-ANALGESIA
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease which affects 630M people worldwide for which there is currently no cure. Exploration of the mechanisms involved in OA has highlighted the contribution of angiogenesis to the structural damage and progression of OA. This project proposes to target osteochondral angiogenesis with vascular disrupting agents to treat OA. We anticipate that VDA may also be beneficial to relieve osteoarthritic pain.
A French team won the challenge "Facial Expression Recognition and Analysis" (FERA 2011). In the framework of the ANR-NSF collaboration in the fields of chemistry and materials, two French-American calls for proposals will be launched in the Blanc International I programme which will open at the beginning of October and close at the end of January. ANR's and NSF's programme schedules are different. The MWN and ICC calls for proposals of the NSF are already open.
