Several metabolic pathways and cellular processes in plants depend on the functioning of iron-sulfur (Fe-S) proteins, whose cofactors are assembled through dedicated assembly machineries present in the cytosol, plastids and mitochondria. To cite only a few examples, Fe- S proteins are present in the photosynthetic and respiratory electron transfer chains and they are needed for sulfur and nitrogen assimilation, or co-enzyme synthesis such as biotin and lipoic acid.
Microalgae are promising platforms to produce TAGs for biofuels and essential omega-3 FAs. Most of the eukaryotic microalgae used so far for biotechnological purposes contain betaine lipids. These lipids are involved in the synthesis of omega-3 very long chain FAs and, during phosphate starvation, phospholipids in microalgae are largely replaced with betaine lipids while, at the same time, the algae accumulate TAG. This strategy is not used by higher plants that lack betaine lipids.

Thymine glycol (TG) is a major oxidation product of thymine and 5-methylcytosine in DNA generated by ionizing radiation (IR) and, to a lesser extent, by free radicals of endogenous origin. The present project is a collaborative effort aimed at elucidating of the biological relevance of different repair pathways proposed for TG in the context of living cells
A Social-Ecological System Approach towards a Sustainable Intensification of Agricultural Production in Sub-Saharan Africa – SESASA
The project aims at developing a “System of Systems” concept to assess land-use and land-management change scenarios to strengthen sustainable water management and food security for the Sudanian-Savannah region. This will be achieved by analyzing social-ecological system interactions including local stakeholder knowledge, human management impacts and nature responses at nested scales. The scenario-simulation will deliver bundles of management strategies to improve food and water securities.
The joint laboratory Lab-NAFA benefits from a strong complementarity in terms of skills, with on the one hand the Materials and Structures ONERA Laboratory, which controls powders, materials and their characterization, and on the other hand POLY-SHAPE, a specialized SME in additive manufacturing (AM) since 2007, boasting one of the most developed AM facilities in Europe and carrying out its R & D efforts on the diptych additive manufacturing technologies / strategic materials.
In a joint effort of French and German scientists specializing, respectively, in speech production and speech comprehension, this project will perform parallel production and comprehension experiments in French and German to improve our understanding of the brain mechanisms of language.
Strategic uncertainty is the uncertainty that players face with respect to the strategies chosen by other players. While economic theory mostly applies equilibrium concepts that are based on the absence of strategic uncertainty, experiments have indicated that most humans waive a substantial part of their expected payoff in order to avoid that their payoff depends on the decisions by others. This aversion to strategic uncertainty has far-reaching consequences for economic efficiency.
