Evolution of chemoreception in relation to land-to-water transition(s) in Adephaga beetles – Evo-AquaSense
Chemical senses play a key role in species adaptation to new ecological niches, notably in insects. Understanding how the fundamentally aerial chemosensory equipment of insects was remodelled in lineages that underwent land-to-freshwater transition is of major interest to evolutionary ecology but remains unexplored.
EFFlux pump inhibitors to Overcome antibiotic ResisTance – EFFORT
The EFFORT consortium aims to characterise and develop a novel family of efflux pump inhibitors able to boost the activity of a plethora of antibiotics that are substrates for Gram negative RND pumps. This research program aims to pinpoint the mechanism of action of these novel inhibitors and chemically develop the inhibitors into potent drug like molecules to allow in vivo proof of concept.
A One health study of Monkeypox: Human infection, animal reservoir, disease ecology and diagnostic tools – AFRIPOX
The understanding of monkeypox still has many grey areas: the animal reservoir is not identified, the risk factors for zoonotic and human-to-human transmission, and the ecological conditions favorable to its emergence are not fully described. Our multidisciplinary project will be grafted on the national surveillance process of monkeypox and will allow a holistic approach of this disease through multiple complementary approaches.
Artemisinin resistance and Plasmodium falciparum cell cycle – Chrono
Malaria, caused by Plasmodium, is the deadliest parasitic disease in humans. The WHO reports an impressive improvement of the situation in recent years, with a ~30-40% decrease in mortality rates in the 2000-2016 period. Nonetheless, malaria is still causing ~200 million clinical cases and ~500,000 deaths worldwide every year. This progress is mostly due to the combination of the massive use of artemisinin derivatives (ART) and the large-scale distribution of insecticide-treated bednets.

Lunar tidal Deformation from earth-based and orbital Laser Ranging – LDLR
This project aims at an improved and consistent determination of the tidal deformations of the Moon by a synthesis of the large amount of observation
obtained from Earth-based Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR) and laser altimetry (LA) from lunar orbit and modelings using different inner structure modelings and rheologies.
With a better understanding of the Moon deformations, one will have a better view on its inner structure.
Pestilences and human societies: emergence, evolution and bio-cultural transformations – PSCHEET
This project intends to widen reflection on past plague mortality crises by combining textual, archaeological and biological data from several European burial sites. We wish to engage interdisciplinary and innovative research on the Justinian plague) and on ancient, supposedly plague, epidemics. The two main objectives are : to track pestilences itineraries and to analyse and interpret their social and cultural impact.
