Line dynamics at heterogeneous interfaces – from complex liquids to soft solids – HeLDyn
We find strong analogies between dynamic dewetting of complex liquids and adhesion rupture of soft solids, especially in the type of front instability which can be observed. In this project we want to develop an experimental and numerical strategy to quantify the dynamics of soft matter fronts moving on heterogeneous surfaces. We will use model heterogeneous surfaces with chemical patterning and soft materials ranging from complex liquids to soft solids. Our aim is to understand the coupling between spatial heterogeneities and material dissipation. The issue is strongly relevant for diverse technological areas such as liquid enduction or adhesive bonding.
