ow rank tensor decomposition for fast electromagnetic modelling of electrical engineering devices – TensorVim

Submission summary

This project aims to develop powerful calculation tools for the rapid implementation of electromagnetic simulations of electrical engineering devices using volume integral methods. These techniques based on a tensor writing of the numerical resolution have recently been applied to integral methods and make it possible to reduce the complexity of the calculations and to avoid an increase in the dimension.
It is thus possible to hope to be able to calculate 3D devices very quickly on discretized problems of several hundred thousand unknowns (even even several million) which would make it possible to simulate some devices inaccessible at the moment.
Many applications could benefit from these tools and in particular, the results obtained will be exploited within the framework of the project for the simulation of applications of interest already well known to the participating teams of G2elab and Laplace such as printed circuit boards for power electronics, axial flow machines and plasma thruster design. In addition, the acceleration of calculations allowed by these tools supplemented by more conventional methods to maintain a certain robustness will allow the implementation of 3D optimization algorithm around this type of simulation.
A close collaboration between the 3 partners will be strengthened through 2 shared theses, one between INRIA and Laplace in charge of the development of new tensor tools and the improvement of resolution methods and the second between G2elab and Laplace and the second between G2elab and Laplace more applicative allowing the practical use of these tools of simulation on problems related to the electric energy topic.
