Adaptive and coopErative helical Catalysts – AdECat

Submission summary

Asymmetric bifunctional catalysts, which integrate separate catalytic moieties and functional groups in the same chiral molecular framework, appear as highly efficient for the preparation of key products. However, their covalent backbone is hardly tunable which considerably limits their scope. Adaptive and cooperative helical catalysts (AdECats) will offer a unique strategy to tune the nature and control the distance between catalytic and functional groups, exacerbating their propensity to activate challenging substrates in a cooperative manner. Co-assembly between a ligand monomer, a functionalized monomer and a chiral inducer will generate a library of AdECats. Gold-, copper- and rhodium-catalyzed reactions will be targeted for which conventional catalysts perform poorly. Likewise, the selectivity of AdECats will be switched during the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters in order to access multi-stereoblock aliphatic polyesters.
