Techniques of Analysis Pending for Authority allocation in Systems of systems – TAPAS

TAPAS

The aim of the project is to elaborate an assessment and analysis process of different men-machines cooperation configuration in order to understand key issues and bootle necks in operation of future systems featuing high level of autonomy

UCAV emergence

The aim is to establish the assessment process and the necessary background to design and assess control interface of future sytems featuring high level of autonomy. In the aeronautical domain this applies in particular to Uninhabited Combat Air Vehicule (UCAV) that will feature autony properties and will be operated simultaneously in high numbers

An initial methodological approach has been achieved coverin : stress, mental representation, team cognition, emotions
Beside this the experiment are being prepared through the elaboration of scenarios and the identification of disturbing events

The evolution of airborne systems towards unihabited solutions such as UCAV (Combat) or ISR (Intelligence Surveillance, Reconnaissance) UAV generates new perspectives for autonomy emergence paving the way for increased interest in the role of human operators in systems. Human operators-alternatively considered as the weak link or as the element that provide flexibility and adaptability to systems- will have to face new control situations and team configurations due to the physical dissociation between human and the systems they are controlling leading to new solutions in tasks allocation and roles definition. In this changing environment assessing the adequacy of the solutions considering Human Factors constitutes a real challenge. The TAPAS project proposes to develop and experiment an assessment methodology to develop to understand the keys and deadlocks of differnet men machines cooperation situations in different environments and configurations of autonomous systems leading to the elaboration of guidelines for future systems design.

Originality and ambition of the project lay mainly in the development of an innovative methodology focused on human factors -considering both cognitive and psychological aspects- and related to a design process of new drones systems

The TAPAS project through its innovative methodological approach open new perspective in the field of authority allocation in mixed initiative systems and as state of the art illustrates limited national and international research have yet adressed the problematics of behavioral and cognitive analysis of operators in charge of autonomous systems thus slowing the emergence of fully innovative.
