Smart air filtration & remote sensing – SAFIRS

The starting points of the project are (technical skills, technical know-how and industrial needs):
- Mature textile technology
- Possibility to functionalize textiles with organic electronics materials and to connect them with traditional electronics components.
- Sensitivity of organic materials sensor are reaching the threshold limits fixed by health agency
- Possibility to generate pollutants with accurate concentration in a laboratory scale AHU
- Need of ventilation duct detection for monitoring indoor air environment, improvement of human environment: potential economic market
Work plan — Work packages, deliverables

The inter-dependencies between the work packages are illustrated in Figure 2. WP1 feeds requirement input to the R&D WPs (2-8). The development and technical WPs form the basis of the dissemination and exploitation activities in WP9.

Non homogeneity of pressure drop behind the filter.
Textile transducers being fabricated.
Electronic and communication on flexible parylene substate.
will be able respond at the end of the project for the other WPs.

Demonstrator being under conception and fabrication.

Submission summary

SAFIRS aims to set up a disruptive technological chain for the production of on-board electronic sensors on textiles permeable to air flows, in order to analyse the air quality and energy efficiency of a dedicated treatment plant to its renewal in confined spaces. The use of a textile matrix equipped with sensors, integrated into the filtration system is a generic offer to design connected detection systems for filter wear monitoring and energy efficient (pressure drop) as well as for the detection of toxic molecules such as formaldehyde and chloramines. SAFIRS is part of the policy to strengthen new standards for monitoring air quality in public institutions. It will provide technological tools to increase the supply of French companies and ambitions to improve national political action in the field of ecology and indoor environment.
