NEW vdW HETEROSTUCTURES BASED ON STACKS OF SUPRAMOLECULAR SELF-ASSEMBLED MOLECULES ON GRAPHENE – STACSAMGRAPH

Submission summary

STACSAMGRAPH project aims to expand the field of van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures, that is to say two-dimensional (2D) materials assembled layer-by-layer where the monolayers are held together by van der Waals forces.
Here, will be developed a novel kind of vdW heterostructures alternating at will (i) 2D materials and (ii) organic monolayer(s) made from surface-confined supramolecular self-assembly of functional molecular building blocks.
The introduction of the 3D molecular building blocks developed recently by the partners will add a control on of both in-plane and out-of-plane nanoscale organization, a prerequisite on the way to functional vdW heterostructures. The project will also takes advantage from the experience and now-how acquired by the partners on processing clean CVD graphene and h-BN monolayers as required by with molecular self-assembly.
Moreover, the first proof-of-concept demonstration of the realization (by an appropriate engineering of the alternations) of an original molecularly-thin device, organic light emitting diode (OLED), is targeted.
