Concert Academies in France in the 18th century – ACADEC
The ACADEC program focuses on the history of Concert Academies in France in the 18th century (1710-1770). It aims to give them more visibility and to highlight their decisive part in the intellectual and artistic life of the Ancien Régime. The purpose of the project is to establish a cartography of these musical societies that were present in some forty cities of the kingdom of Louis XV, to inventory and analyze their administrative archives and their musical and theoretical libraries. Using an interdisciplinary team, ACADEC seeks to define the characteristics of what can be described as the musical academism of the Enlightenment. It studies the institutional, social and cultural frameworks of Concert Academies, and tries to understand which actors and networks drive them. Finally, by joining forces with an artistic team, he invites us to have a new look at musical practices and the specific repertoire, and to revalorize and replay a forgotten heritage.
