Laboratory of excellency for electrochemical energy storage

STORE-EX

Keywords: Energie; stockage électrochimique; batteries; supercondensateurs; transfert de technologie; prototypage

Summary

STORE-EX has been now running for 13 years and we have maintained our momentum in terms of governance (Scientific Council and College meetings…) and scientific production (161 peer-reviewed papers whose 17 in high impact journals in 2023). Asides from publications and joint patent with industry, 4 new patent applications were filed in 2023 (26 active patent families/44 filed since 2011). Researches on Na-ion technology, interfaces characterizations, all-solid-state batteries, developing sensing and self-healing capabilities to design smart batteries are the current hot topics in which STORE-EX is moving forward in spite of a very fierce competition. Last, STORE-EX is then still at the forefront of academic and applied research with strong connections with 3 technology transfer centers and 14 industrial partners that are all members of the French Initiative on electrochemical storage systems (RS2E). Lastly, STORE-EX is a prominent partner of Battery 2030+ program and of PEPR “Batteries”.

5 highlights:

i) the PEPR program on batteries that involves numbers of STORE-EX labs and that is both coordinated by Hélène Burlet from CEA and Patrice Simon from Université Toulouse III (Deputy Director of RS2E) has been now running for months;

ii) STORE-EX labs in Amiens and Toulouse as well as all STORE-EX/RS2E researchers are part of the challenging education program dedicated to train future collaborators employed by gigafactories, battery-material makers and battery recyclers, including the creation of two 3rd year Professional Bachelor degrees dedicated to Batteries;

iii) the on-going development of INSTABAT European project making diagnosis of batteries using IR-based optical fibers sensors

iv) the on-going development of the “Task Force” STORE-EX internal project dedicated to all solid-state batteries

v) the on-going development of our spin-off TIAMAT that have secured the half of the equity (22M€) to start the construction of the first phase of its 5 GWh plant in Amiens.
