NUMEV seeks to harmonize computational and engineering sciences with life and the environmental sciences to pave the way for an interdisciplinary pole with international visibility. The development of a research-training-transfer dynamics contributes to the major scientific, technical and economic evolutions in the interactions of the computational and engineering domain (mathematics, computer science, physics, systems/engineering) with agronomy - environment – biodiversity - biology and health for the life and the environment. The four major interdisciplinary challenges related to life and environmental sciences define the main NUMEV scientific objectives (i) Observing, Characterizing, Modeling natural systems, (ii) Extracting and Representing data, (iii) Developing Computational /Algorithmic Methods for Large Data Sets, (iv) Conceiving Computational & Mathematical Representations of natural systems. NUMEV responds also to strong societal concerns with priorities in Health, Demographic Change, Wellbeing, Food Security, and Sustainable Agriculture. In this context, NUMEV aims to train and support tomorrow’s scientists able to tackle the multidimensional problems of human care, feeding and protection, directly in line with the priorities of the ISITE MUSE Project led by the University of Montpellier. To date, NUMEV has contributed to the financing and co-financing of more than 90 mid/long-term scientific projects (with diverse scopes), 47 Post-docs, 37 PhD co-fundings, 13 invited scientists and the strong support in several scientific workshops/conferences at national and international level. With near of 300 publications scientific publications (including 72 in 2018) in recognized international journals and leading international conferences, and 2 patent, LabEx's scientific output has reached its maturity level. NUMEV has naturally become a cradle of inter- and trans-disciplinarity on the Montpellier site at the interface with life and environment.
