Efficient and Decarbonized Energy Systems (SEED)

The SEED  Call for Proposals aims to improve the global energy efficiency of primary energy production (excluding nuclear or renewable electricity and bio-energy), and industrial systems and building components, while minimizing the environmental footprint of the solutions adopted. A special attention is paid to the recovery, including through storage, of low temperature fatal heat, which represents three-quarters of heat deposits released by the industry. It also aims to develop, reduce costs and ensure the safety of CO2 capture and storage technologies, and covers some approaches of CO2 use and valorization (CCUS). Research may focus either on the development of innovative components, or on integrated systems approaches (couplings, cogeneration, transverse aspects of the CCUS chain, etc.), including modeling and experimental aspects.

The programme targets to enhance the French academic research position in the field of energy efficiency and energy decarbonization and to promote the establishment of public - private partnerships.

The programme is open to international cooperation, particularly in the field of CO2 capture and storage in order to pool research efforts still needed to enable demonstration and deployment of CCS technologies in the world.

With Canada, the call for proposals "Blanc International II" of the ANR, opened on December 16th 2011, provides the ability of financing bilateral projects in public-private partnerships on CO2 capture and storage. Indeed, CCS is among the topics included in the agreement between the ANR and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada.
