The objectives of the INS research programme are the emergence of new paradigms, techniques, methods and tools to design digital hardware and software systems. It covers all aspects of engineering according to a continuum relying on Internet. This programme aims at increasing the national effort in R&D by focusing on security especially.
Digital engineering encompasses concepts, methods, processes, techniques and tools for designing digital systems made up of hardware and software elements, their rationale and seamless integration as well for delivering products and services, controlling physical devices/equipment (robots, embedded systems in cars, aircrafts, trains…). The pressing need for anticipating, predicting and guarantying security properties (deliberated attacks against these systems), dependability (defects, breakdowns, anomalies, imperfections, obsolescence…); to take account energy savings, easy access for users from the design phase (e.g., requirements engineering) and the Internet as the backbone of the digital world (need of composability and interoperability of (often) heterogeneous components) impose a more and more innovative engineering discipline that is online with the global economy. The “Digital engineering and security” research program consolidates and stresses the increasing of the French national effort about R&D on this topic, taking account the French academic research and the French product and service industry along with ambitious collaborations.
