ANR joins the BiodivERsA partnership to launch BiodivClim call for proposals, which is cofunded by the European Commission, to fund transnational research proposals on “Biodiversity and Climate Change”. 34 national/regional funding organisations from 26 countries are joining this call co-funded by the following members’ countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil (Sao Paulo State), Brazil*, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey

The loss of biodiversity and the deterioration of ecological services or "ecosystemic services" are increasing at an unprecedented rate on both the European and global scale. This damage is impacting not just the natural world but human society as a whole. Financial support to the sciences related to biodiversity scientific questions should therefore provide a mean towards new answers for major societal and global problems.

The aim of this new call for proposals is to support the development of transnational collaborative projects addressing the following theme on biodiversity and climate change

This call will cover the following four non-exclusive themes:

  • Consequences of climate change on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people
  • Climate-biodiversity feedback processes
  • Potential of nature-based solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change
  • Synergies and trade-offs between policies on biodiversity, climate and other relevant sectors, and the role of agents of change

Scientific teams are invited to form transnational consortia comprising research groups from at least three countries participating in the call (including minimum two from EU Member States or EU Associated Countries).

For applicants from the overseas: provided the criterion above is met (Partners from at least two different EU Member States or Associated Countries participating in the call), for proposals including Partners from outermost regions and overseas countries and territories participating in the call, if two outermost regions and overseas countries and territories are from the same country, these are counted as two participating countries (for the criteria: at least three different countries).

An overall budget of ca. €26M has been provisionally reserved. ANR confirmed its contribution to the call for a maximum amount of €2 M.

Proposals will be evaluated according to criteria of scientific excellence, (policy relevance and societal impact (which includes stakeholder engagement), and quality and efficiency of the project implementation.
