Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action on Resilience in Rapidly Changing Arctic Systems

The Belmont Forum is pleased to announce the launch of a second Collaborative Research Action focused on Arctic region. The title of this international funding opportunity is Resilience in a Rapidly Changing Arctic. Support for selected projects in this call comes from Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education (UFM, Denmark), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST, Japan), National Research Agency (ANR, France), National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC, Canada), National Science Foundation (NSF, USA) Research Council of Norway (RCN, Norway), Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR, Russia), Swedish Research Council (FORMAS, Sweden), The Icelandic Centre for Research (RANNIS, Iceland), The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO, The Netherlands).

The call supports the advancement and implementation of the Arctic Council’s 7 interconnected elements of resilience: natural, social, financial, cultural, and human capitals; infrastructure and knowledge. Successful proposals will address two or more elements of resilience in co-developed and co-implemented transdisciplinary projects that feature, at a minimum, the expertise of natural scientists, social scientists and humanities (SSH), and stakeholders. The term “stakeholder” is used here in its broadest possible sense, allowing for co-development of projects with partners from, but not limited to, civil society, government, industry, NGOs, and Indigenous and Local People organizations.

Resilience in a Rapidly Changing Arctic supports transnational cooperation by requiring that projects are eligible for award by at least three of the funders from three different countries supporting the call. Proposing consortia seeking partners to meet the transdisciplinary or transnational requirements are encouraged to utilize the Future Earth Open Network and relevant existing Arctic networks to build their project teams.
