TULIP-GS is an eight-year project with a budget of €3.95 million that aims to strengthen the link between research and education within the TULIP community, particularly at the intersection of functional biology and ecology/evolution. TULIP member laboratories are located in three areas of the Occitanie region: Perpignan, Toulouse, and Moulis and are composed of over 500 scientists working in six laboratories. TULIP-GS major objectives are to:
-Provide training opportunities for students and TULIP scientists at the interface of functional biology and ecology/evolution
-Promote training-by-research strategies for students at different levels (license, master's, and Ph.D.)
-Favor project-based learning and the rapid immersion of students in TULIP laboratories
-Develop student autonomy and independent thinking at the earliest possible stage
-Favor the national and international mobility of students and TULIP scientists
-Develop interactions between students, TULIP scientists, and socio-economic partners
-Attract high-quality students and increase their ability to integrate TULIP laboratories.
To achieve its goals, TULIP-GS uses two main tools: a new interface Master (The Functional Biology and Ecology Master (FBE)) offered to post-bachelor national and international students, and 6 different calls for proposals aimed at undergraduate and PhD students as well as TULIP scientists. These calls allow PhD students to fund travel expenses in France or abroad and/or to develop small autonomous "Side Projects", TULIP scientists to improve their skills by financing training course, PhD students to have a first tutoring experience, third year biology (life sciences) students to take part in a 6-week research project, and candidates willing to engage in a PhD in one of the 6 TULIP Laboratories to obtain a grant covering 50% to 100% of the total salary cost of a three-year doctoral allocation contract.
