Résumé

SERENADE LABEX (Safer(r) Ecodesign Research and Education applied for NAnomaterial Development) started in 2012. It creates a dynamic multidisciplinary network of 13 academic research laboratories and industries to design tomorrow’s nanomaterials that are safer for both humans and the environment. SERENADE benefits from cutting edge facilities (Equipex NanoID, iCeint mesocosms etc). SERENADE addresses nanosafety during the entire life cycle of products. After 7 years most of evaluation criteria indicate that the project fit with the initial roadmap. In agreement with the external advisory board, the steering committee funded 16 PhDs, 32 Post-Docs, 3 chairs and up to 1150 k€ of seed funds and equipment as planned. The number of peer reviewed papers and book chapters increased steadily from 1, 7, 27, 39, 47, 39 and 19 from 2012 to 2018 respectively, published in journals with average IF of 11 for 2018. Serenade was quoted in about 600 conferences. SERENADE initiated in 2015, 7 integrated Case studies aiming at testing the ‘Safer by design’ methodology on various product types: photocatalytic paints, sunscreen, food packaging, Nano-wire, End-of-life and nano-wastes. In 2018 most of them reached their initial goals and a last series of projects were initiated with topics that will create the momentum for the ‘after labex’ period (i.e. role of nanotechnologies in agriculture).

SERENADE education actions targeted master students (new course contents offered within Master programs) and the workforces (nano defi, NANoCERT, PNS–safety showroom). The network interacts with agencies such as OECD, ISO, ANSES, Ministries, European Commission for regulatory and standardization purposes, also reviewers for proposals calls (ERANET SIINN…). SERENADE also developed a vigorous outreach program with various competitiveness clusters. Overall SERENADE generated more than 8M€ of leverage mainly through coordination and participations to FP7/H2020 EU funded projects.
