ParaFrap, originally formed with 18 leading Parasitology research groups in France, was o?cially renewed in 2019 for another 5 years, expanding to 25 partners with the addition of 11 new partners selected by the external Scientific Advisory Board (eSAB). A significant part of the budget was allocated to the international PhD and postdoc programs, aiming to train future leaders in the field. So far, 42 PhD students and 17 postdocs have been recruited. In 2024, ParaFrap was extended until 2027.
All the PhD and postdoc research projects were selected by the eSAB through a competitive call within the consortium. ParaFrap initiated international calls for applications to hire PhD students or postdocs in 2013, 2016, and 2021. The initiative has also played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration within the national Parasitology community, resulting in numerous successful grant applications and co-publications in top journals. Since 2012, the network has published 645 articles, with a notable increase in publications co-authored by at least 2 ParaFrap partners, reaching 91 since 2016 compared to 13 from 2012 to 2016.
Moreover, the internationally renowned ParaFrap biennial conference, held since 2014, received the EMBO Workshop label in 2018, 2022 and 2025. We have also applied for the 2027 edition.
To further strengthen the consortium’s community and international visibility, ParaFrap initiated monthly webinars in January 2021, attracting about 100 participants worldwide per session. After each webinar, students can engage in discussions with the speaker. In addition, ParaFrap organizes Young Investigator Program (YIP) workshop to foster european collaboration and skill development among early-career researchers.
Overall, all objectives set for the reporting period have been successfully achieved thus far. Other initiatives are planned for the coming years to strengthen the parasitology community and support future experts in the field.
