Résumé de soumission

The NetRNA consortium, coordinated by Prof. Eric Westhof (until august 2016) and P. Romby (since sept 2016), gathers now 14 teams. The general objective is to advance knowledge on the functions of novel RNAs, their targets and mechanisms in a variety of pathogens and of organisms (plants, insects, and mammals). NetRNA focus on regulatory RNAs and their machineries that play a role in development, stress-related responses, immune responses, host-pathogen interactions, and in human diseases. Important findings have been obtained during 2016 on the translation machinery and its control in various organisms and on the machineries assisting and controlling the regulatory RNAs in plants, insects, bacteria, viruses, and parasites. These data were accompanied by acquisition of novel methodologies and expertise: (1) LC-MSMS apparatus identifies targets of regulatory RNAs, protein partners from complex samples and modifications of proteins and of RNAs; (2) droplet-based microfluidics improves fluorescent activities of fluorogenic RNAs; (3) cryo-electron microscopy was used to solve several pre-initiation ribosomal complexes at high resolution in mammals and pathogens. Recruitments for the last junior chair has been initiated in 2016, while a high profile junior team leader has been recruited in 2015 to analyze the mechanisms of small RNA biogenesis. Support has been provided for a new attractivity team in 2016 to work on non-sense mediated decay linked to viral infections. Awards were allocated to several leaders, and financial supports from IdEx were obtained for several new equipments reinforcing the proteomic and imaging platforms, and for the purification and characterization of ribonucleoprotein complexes (SwitchSense technology). We have invited several renowned international researchers, contributed to international meetings, and have organized every year a winterschool, and courses for master and PhD students promoting a top level training for young researchers.
