Résumé de soumission

IAST celebrated its fifth birthday in 2016; it operates as a sheltered foundation under the aegis of the foundation Jean-Jacques Laffont TSE, and is governed by an Executive Committee. The Director is supported by six Program Directors (with a new program in Anthropology since 2016). Its long-term recruitment is based on senior chairs (currently 3), tenure-track posts (3), visiting fellowships (6), and 3-year post doctoral research fellowships (currently 20, rising to 24 in 2017). Another 20-25 researchers in Toulouse are active in IAST.

The scientific program involves nine social sciences: anthropology, biology, economics, history, law, philosophy, political science, psychology and sociology. This is a unified scientific project whose aim is to study the behavior of human beings as evolved biological organisms who live in groups, form networks and coalitions, are governed by formal institutions and informal norms, produce and exchange scarce resources and are inspired by ideals and beliefs. Since its launch, the IAST has held 41 international conferences or workshops and 254 seminars, hosted 239 visitors (of whom 35 have stayed for a month or more); and published 130 research papers and 9 monographs.

IAST has a strong impact on the academic ecosystem by developing multiple links between labs, including involvement in scientific programs and (in anthropology, biology and political science) a joint recruitment strategy. IAST also extends Toulouse research networks, nationally and internationally (with partnerships with institutions in Brazil, Canada, China, France and Germany). Beyond initial Labex funding and co-recruitment with institutional partners, IAST has succeeded in gaining funds from other sources (2 ANR and 2 ERC grants, two IDEX senior chairs, a private donation to fund a center in political science, as well as a digital research program with both private and public funding) and has been involved since 2016 in a major fundraising campaign with TSE.
