CESAME Institute includes 5 technological platforms coordinated by Neurodis Foundation (WP1). We lead partners’ relations and promote CESAME to reach private sector.
WP2: Cell-engineering platform generated a panel of novel pluripotent stem cell lines (both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells) in rabbits, human, and rhesus monkey. These new cell lines are useful to study the molecular mechanisms of pluripotency in mammals and to design cell and organ therapy. Given their potential in differentiating in the neuroglial lineages, these cell lines provide invaluable tools for studying the early steps of the molecular and cellular development of the cerebral cortex in human and non-human primates (NHP).
The platform also works to implement gene transfer (WP2 optogenetics) in NHP models of neurological diseases or deficiency.
WP3: Blood-Brain interface exploration platform develops methodologies to achieve a real breakthrough on blood-brain barrier (BBB) research. New applications of cellular models and transport methods created for pathophysiological and drug delivery investigations are under development.
WP4: Human iEEG signal platform has 2 uses:
Medical for pre-surgical check up for epileptic patients: 34 in 2016,
Research using recorded intracerebral signals: 21 protocols in 2016.
WP5: Neuro-immersion platform (N-i) recruited an engineer. Virtual Reality & Motion tracking systems were further integrated and new sensory stimulators purchased. Several projects are ongoing and publication record strengthened.
WP6: Neuro-imaging facility offers access to an operational simultaneous MRI-PET scanner, equipped for experimentation. CESAME contributes to the platform in terms of radiochemistry and human resources. PET technology combined with the state-of-the-art MRI sequences enables new ways of research in neuroscience. 9 over 30 imaging project have already started. 4 methodological projects are funded by CESAME.
