Antibacterial and Thermosensitive Macromolecular Coatings for the Release of Healing Agent on Chronic wounds – ARHES
Wound healing is a complex process aiming at maintaining the barrier function of skin. Failing to achieve sufficient healing, chronic wounds lead to persistent infections and the inability of skin cells to repair resulting in significant discomfort and distress of the patient. After removal of non-viable tissue material, the applied wound dressing can be exploited as a platform to deliver bioactive molecules to prevent bacterial infection and promote wound healing. ARHES project has the aim to develop thermoresponsive polyarginine coatings for the functionalization of wound dressings. The thermoresponsive coatings will possess three properties: (i) bactericidal by contact-killing thanks to polyarginine, (ii) antioxidant and (iii) the stimulation of wound healing both thanks to the release of a natural healing agent.
