Health, Perception, Practices, Relationships and Social Inequalities in the General Population during the Crisis COVID-19 – SAPRIS

The SAPRIS project aims to conduct a general population survey to understand the main epidemiological and social issues of the SARS-CoV2 epidemic. In particular, the understanding and implementation of prevention measures, the perception of risk for oneself and in general, the prevalence of symptoms of COVID-19 and other health problems including mental health, use or renunciation of heath care system, the effects on daily life, social relations and work, and the care of children will be studied. The analysis of social inequalities will be the major cross-cutting focus of this project.
A 30-minute questionnaire will be asked via the Internet in four major epidemiological cohorts: Constances, Elfe-Epipage, Nutrinet and E3N/E4N. This methodology offers the opportunity to work on large samples for which numerous social and medical data are already collected before the start of the epidemic, thus making it possible to rigorously measure its impact on health, social relations and the professional situation. Moreover, these databases are established according to rigorous protocols that allow representative estimators of the indicators studied to be established.
Phase 1 of the survey will be carried out at the beginning of April and the survey will be repeated regularly to monitor changes in health status, social practices and confidence in public and scientific action to combat the epidemic.
The project is being carried out by a multidisciplinary team involving researchers from different disciplines at INSERM, INED, CNRS and universities, in epidemiology, sociology, demography and economics. It is coordinated by Nathalie Bajos, sociologist-demographer, specialist in public health surveys of the general population and social inequalities in health, and Fabrice Carrat, epidemiologist, specialist in infectious diseases. It is supported by ITMO Public Health. Contacts have been made with teams in Europe and the United States in order to carry out international comparisons.
This project has been submitted to the INSERM Ethics Review Committee and the data collection and analysis will comply with the RGPD rules that apply to each of the cohorts.
In addition to the production of new scientific data with regard to the medical, social and political characteristics of the epidemic, the first results will be made known as soon as possible to public health actors and public authorities in order to improve prevention policies, reduce social inequalities and possibly take into account new issues raised by the first analyses.
