Enhancing Situated learning with collaborative Games and Mixed reality – SituLearn

Mobile applications for education field trips

The SituLearn project aims to help teachers enrich their educational field trips with mobile applications. The models and tools that we offer apply to all the subjects taught that require learning in the field (History, Botany, Geology, etc.) from college to vocational training.
The main idea is to take advantage of the positive interconnections in terms of learning between:
? collaboration
? play
? mobility

Objectives

The first objective is to provide a collaborative educational game model that can be adapted to any type of field trips. This model will be integrated into an authoring tool, allowing teachers to create their own educational games.
The second objective is to create Augmented Reality interactions on a geographical map to facilitate collaborative learning. Equipped with a smartphone, learners will be able to see, in real time, the position of other learners and information on points of interest.
The third objective is to create a dashboard so that teachers can follow the progress of their students in real time. This tool will offer Augmented Reality interactions to geolocate all students, in real time, on an IGN map. It will also be possible to communicate directly with the students via text or telephone.

The project involves researchers in computer science and didactics and will be carried out in close collaboration with teachers and their students.
As well as helping to advance research on new forms of learning, the SituLearn project will produce a set of free tools , made available to teachers and trainers. It is also planned to provide tutorial videos and a design help system, integrated into the editor.

The SIGAMIX project aims to help teachers, at all educational levels, enhance their field trips with smartphone applications. The first objective is to design a collaborative Learning Game model that can adapt to any type of field trip. This model will be integrated into an authoring tool, allowing teachers to create their own Learning Games. The second objective is to create Mixed Reality interactions on a geographical map to facilitate collaborative learning. Through their smartphone, the students will be able to see the position of the other students and information on the points of interest. The teachers will also be able to monitor their students’ whereabouts and progress. This project will involve researchers in computer science and educational sciences and will follow a design-based research method in collaboration with teachers and their students. The tools developed will be freely accessible and annual training workshops will be organized for teachers and future teachers.
