Submission summary

Electrocaloric materials show very interesting performances, compared to others solid state caloric substances. In spite of being still on a lower level with respect to the traditional refrigeration gas, we shall emphasize some design opportunities offered by the compactness of the field source (a couple of electrodes) characterizing the EC effect. Electrocaloric materials show the characteristics needed to develop a new generation of compact, high throughput, and highly efficient cooling devices, able to support the need of air conditioning/heating in light and efficient vehicles. Our aim is to take advantages of their unique high frequency performances, jointly with the possibility to reach an unprecedented thermal transfer thanks to the use of thin films. Electrostatic actuation of the film in order to control the heat transfer is able to take advantages of the all surface of exchange, while keeping a highly integrated device.
