Coupling Catalysis and High Temperature Electrolysis for Ethylene from CO2 – CHEEC

Submission summary

The goal of the CHEEC project is to integrate into the Power-to-SNG chain an intermittent valorization of produced oxygen and methane by their catalytic conversion into ethylene on the O2-HTE electrode. The highly crystalline nanostructured catalysts with controlled size, composition and surface properties will be prepared bysupercritical continuous fluids technology (ICMCB). The doping of materials, of the perovskite SrTiO3 type, will be studied at site A and/or site B so as to promote either electronic conductivity or mixed ionic/electronic conductivity while enhancing catalytic activity in oxidative coupling of methane. The materials will be tested in the OCM reaction in operation conditions consistent with an application in HTE technology (ICPEES). The anodes will be shaped on commercial half-cells using two strategies, for perovskites that have shown both good catalysis capabilities and good conductivity properties. The oxygen mobility and the efficiency for ethylene production under water HTE conditions will be studied (IC2MP). The Proof of Concept will be done by the coupling of CO2-H2O coelectrolysis/OCM at larger scale (CEA). The project opens the petrochemistry route from greenelectricity and non-extracted carbon by coupling chemistry/electrolysis together with CO2 valorization. Energy assessment will be provided.
