IT-Enabled Strategies to Improve Online Education and Learning – iMOOC

Submission summary

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are expected to lower education costs, democratize education opportunities, and help learners’ employment and career development. To fulfill these promises, it is important to develop innovative IT-enabled strategies that can effectively motivate learners to participate in MOOCs and improve their learning performances. This project seeks to design practical strategies which are underpinned by fundamental theories (e.g., social psychology and behavioral economics) and enabled by innovative digital and information technologies (e.g., big data analytics) with the objectives to effectively improve online education and digital learning, in the context of MOOCs. The project proposes to conduct a series of large-scale randomized field experiments on the MOOC platforms. The results are expected to yield significant impacts on multiple academic fields and the industry of online education.
