Towards a comparative approach to second language learning/teaching through desktop videoconferencing to develop the techno-semio-pedagogical competences of trainee teachers – VAPVISIO
Our project studies the development of techno-semio-pedagogical competence (CTSP) for the training of language trainers in online environments using videoconferencing. The literature on online exchanges (or telecollaboration) presents results concerning, on the one hand, particular pedagogical projects and, on the other hand, CTSP modeling. Nevertheless, currently there is no study comparing several pedagogical telecollaboration models in order to identify the characteristics and potentialities of each of them. In addition, existing studies do not present a longitudinal approach to CTSP development.
We develop a comparative approach of two telecollaboration models to understand which CTSPs require trainer intervention to be developed. This comparative approach is based on a multilingual and longitudinal corpus. We aim to collect a corpus of data between two etandems projects (French-English and French-Chinese) and two telecollaborations based on the model of Le français en (première) ligne (for teaching French and teaching Chinese). Our corpus will consist of online interactions, eye tracking data and stimulated recall interviews.
As far as the methods of analysis are concerned, we will develop categories of analysis allowing not only the comparison between different pedagogical models and between different languages, but categories that will also make it possible to preserve the socio-cultural dimension and the digital and multimodal dimension of interaction. To do this, we will mobilize theoretical and methodological frameworks related to conversational analysis, multimodal analysis from social semiotics, and an ecological approach to interactions.
The results of the analyzes will make it possible, on the one hand, to characterize each telecollaborative project studied, on the other hand, by a methodologically rigorous comparison, to identify what is common to a single pedagogical model irrespective of languages ??and what is common to teaching / learning the same language through different pedagogical models.
The results of the project will have impacts on research practice within the research unit and on pedagogy. Regarding research, the project will, in addition to answering our research questions, federate the efforts of several members of the laboratory interested in online didactic interactions. With regard to pedagogy, the results of this project will make it possible to better inform the training of language trainers, in particular for the teaching of languages ??through videoconference, as well as the implementation of telecollaboration projects.
