BORON ATOM: a keystone for catalysis with BORENIUM, BORYL and diBORENE species – BORON-HAT-TRICK

Submission summary

BORON HAT-TRICK project is centered on fundamental research and addresses the conception and the study of new boron-based objects and their reactivity as catalysts in racemic then enantioselective transformations. The main aim of this proposal is to generate rapidly new tools for asymmetric synthetic chemistry. In this context, three main areas based on the transformation of NHC-borane precursors have been identified and will be explored thoroughly: (a) transformation into stabilized cyclic chiral Lewis acid (borenium ion) and their applications in racemic then enantioselective catalysis in FLP or in Lewis acid activation modes; (b) conversion into stabilized cyclic Lewis bases (boryl anions) and their applications in metal-catalyzed racemic then enantioselective reduction reactions; and finally (c) utilization as diborene pi-olefin type ligands (isoelectronic to alkenes), and their application in metal catalysis.
