Stochastic approach for navigation functions in uncertain environment – STARGATE

Submission summary

Future air traffic management systems will have to face an increase in the number of flights. A paradigm shift is necessary, with a
larger part of the separation task being delegated to aircraft and crews. STARGATE project aims at studying resilient and safe
algorithms to answer this requirement, taking into account uncertainties inherent to air traffic (delays, weather events). Harmonic
and bi-harmonic navigation function theory will be first extended to configuration spaces in order to allow coordinated motion
planning. A meshless approach will be followed in order to tackle the problem of solving in high dimension the partial differential
equations involved in navigation function design.A stochastic extension based on expansions over generalized chaos polynomials
will be the topic adressed in a second phase to gain resilience. The industrial implication will allow the release of a prototype
implementation of the algorithms along with a simulation environment.
