Research project in human and social sciences, ECRIN proposes to study, from a historical perspective and with a multidisciplinary approach, the observed inequalities against "Arabs" in the French media since the end of the Algerian war. The project makes two observations : the delay of the French research on the topic of inequalities in television and films on the one hand, and secondly the recurrence of this theme over the past ten years both in the public and political debates. The objective of ECRIN is to determine the evolution of these inequalities about an emblematic stereotype since five decades symbolized by the omnipresence of the "immigration issue" and the rise of the "screen culture". Therefore, the project aims to study the ability of the society to accept, thanks to its mediatic production, the presence of an immigrant represented as marginal or even antagonistic during a long period. Taking into account the theoretical knowledges of the consortium about the prolonged tension in the representation of migrants and specifically the "Arab", it seems necessary to study the construction of this deficit of equality pointed out by citizens. ECRIN wishes to demonstrate the possible naturalization of discrimination against "Arabs" in different historical periods, their appearance in the media, and thus provide a perspective in the present time.
