Santé, organisation et gestion des ressources humaines – SORG

Submission summary

The SORG (Health, Organization, Management of Human Resources) project aims at exploring the organizational drivers of health in the workplace. While these drivers are often referred to in the literature, there is very few works devoted to organizational process analyses to reach a satisfactory understanding of the relationships between those organizational drivers and the construction of workplace health. The distinctive asset of the project lies in the proposition of an in-depth analysis of how the employment relationship transformations (i.e. new job contents, new social management modes) impact on the occupational health. A comprehensive approach of the interactions between the employment relationship and workplace health calls for various scientific corpuses around two core competences, i.e. the analysis of organizations (management sciences, economics, sociology) and the study of the employees’ occupational health (public health, occupational medicine). The project is endorsed by various empirical materials that will allow to better contrast the organization configurations and the employment relationships in order to design an enhanced comprehensive theoretical construction. Three domains of activity will be deeply investigated: the relational services sector, the hospital sector and the manufacturing sector (large, medium and small companies). The empirical work will give priority to diachronic approaches combining a monographic analysis of organizations and a statistical approach of the workers’ occupational health state. The objective of the project is to better understand the articulation between the organizational building settings of the employment relationships and the construction of health in the workplace. Promoting a primary handling of workplace health issues hence becomes doable by highlighting the types of employment relationships favouring both the improvement of workplace conditions with their occupational health and safety features, and /in fine/, an upgraded economic and social performance of the organizations.
